It's not the ideal situation, but I'm lucky I have the tools I need to be a reporter from home during this situation.
To start off, I've been producing news stories for UTA Radio News. The segment airs 12 p.m. on Tuesdays and Thursdays. It's been a lesson in adapting. Phone interviews just have to be okay now. My car makes an excellent sound booth. Getting access to editing software at home took some critical thinking, but one free trial later here we are. Audacity is also becoming an invaluable backup plan.
UTA has cancelled all in-person class meetings for the rest of the semester. Graduation is postponed (I am set to recieve my diplomas in May). However, one of my classmates made an excellent point. We are living in a historical time. We have the chance to document what is happening by talking to the people around us. I have recording and editing equipment, access to my computer...even a camera that I can use to keep track of it all.
I'll be posting my audio stories for UTA Radio here, as well as any other content I'm able to produce surrounding this situation.
